Is there a genre of music which you, in general, do not enjoy but there is literally just one person in that genre whom you DO really like?

The Country Music genre for me

But I truly ADORE Dwight Yoakam's music. I cannot pinpoint my reasons. I simply enjoy. Yeah, it helps that (no surprise) I find him hot, ha!

Here's one of the very best 'modern' Christmas songs for me -- his "Come On Christmas"

I'm not partial to country music, but I do like Kenny Chesney.

He was in my city to perform. I didn't know of him at all at the time. But I saw this guy (who ended up being Chesney) in a YMCA parking lot by a big bus -- he was in workout clothes and he was skipping back and forth, with really large and high steps. I've done that as part of my workout at times. I went up to him and told him how difficult that is for me to do. We both agreed it was challenging. We chitchatted a bit. Only when I was accosted by two women inside who had seen us through the window -- "You talked to him!! That was Kenny Chesney!!" -- did I realize he was famous.
    :)

He was really pleasant and nice.

I've never heard anyone have a bad word about Chesney nor has be been negatively reported on in the news.  I have one of his CDs - The Road and the Radio and there are some really good songs on it.

I'm not familiar with his music. But he certainly impressed me at how nice he was to talk with. (Yeah, and I admit, I noticed he was very handsome.)

He usually wears sleeveless shirts when he performs and he's got really nice arms.

Huge smiles!  Who cares what he sounds like.  If he's good to look at all he has to do is stand there and pretend!! :D!

  • He got his upbeat organ style from playing background music for silent movies. Then when the silent movies added sound, he continued his musical career using that upbeat style. This made his organ music very different from the organ players of his era.

  • My dad was a big Yoakam fan, which may be why I love his music so much. Not a bad actor either.

I can NOT stand Christmas music, but I love Dream Theater's version of Oh, Holy Night.

Yes, I've seen Dwight in two movies! He is good, you're right!
That'd be fun to talk with your dad about Yoakam.

I have to go back to work now until late tonight -- I hope to come back and look up Dream Theater's song. I really dislike "O Holy Night" most of the time, ha! I haven't heard their version, though.

If you haven't heard Yoakam's "Come On Christmas," try giving it a listen if you have time. It is SO unlike the usual Christmas song!

    VERY, very nice!

What I usually don't like about the song is how so many singers wait until that one last really high note  (" Oh, night Di-VIIIIIIIINE") and then they hold onto it for about five minutes -- just to show off (in my opinion).

What I like about these guys -- along with the very effective-to-me unassuming guitar accompaniment and the singer - - this guy certainly has the chops to hold onto that last high note for five minutes - - and, to his HUGE credit, he doesn't. Boy, he has a clear singing tone to my ears.

  • OH yes, he is an amazing vocalist.  Their band, Dream Theater, was really good when former drummer was still in the band.  I no longer listen to them now that he is gone, but they were great back then.
